The Pretrial Supervision Program is a program developed to provide the Justice and District courts an alternative to incarcerating a defendant in jail while he/she is awaiting trial or sentencing.
It alleviates the tax payer the lock down incarceration cost for a defendant while providing safety for the community by monitoring the defendant’s behavior.
The position requires a current State of Montana driver’s license.
Mental demands are paramount due to the intensity of the work.
Physical demands include the ability to restrain a defendant in a crisis situation and the ability to respond physically in an emergency situation.
The position shares on-call responsibility to the Pretrial program, the Misdemeanor Supervision Program and the Sobriety and Accountability Program.
Therefore, the Pretrial Supervision Officer needs to be in good physical condition and mobile.
Shift schedule is to be determined The officer must be willing to be somewhat flexible in the work schedule due to the needs of the court, program, and clientele.

*Agency Description*: The mission of the Pretrial Supervision Program is to provide information to the Courts that assist the Courts in making release decisions of an incarcerated defendant and to monitor those defendants that are released for compliance to their conditions of release.
*Typical Duties (not all inclusive)*: The Pretrial Supervision Officer will conduct screening interviews with defendants as directed by the Court.
The officer will verify all information received and complete the Pretrial scoring guide and report for the Court’s review.
If a defendant is placed by the Court into the Pretrial Program, the officer will review all program requirements with the defendant and contract his/her responsibility to the program.
The Pretrial Supervision Officer will be responsible for monitoring each defendant’s compliance to his/her court order release conditions by contacting outside counseling agencies; taking urine samples; conducting breathalyzer tests; contacting employers, trainers, or teachers; searching a defendant’s person and property; utilizing electronic monitoring devices; tracking payment of supervision fees; keeping documentation and concise notes on all actions taken with and on behalf of the defendant; investigating alleged violations of release, issuing a Warrant for arrest for non-compliance, preparing violation reports, arresting of the defendant; notifying the court of a defendant’s compliance or non-compliance to the release conditions; and testifying in court.
The Pretrial Supervision Officer meets with community agencies to coordinate services; and is responsible for maintaining a referral mechanism and professional relationship with the courts and other correctional agencies.
The Pretrial Supervision Officer shares on-call responsibility with other Misdemeanor Supervision, pretrial Officers and the Chief Pretrial Supervision Officer to provide 24-hour per day availability for emergency situations.
The Pretrial Supervision Officer will keep statistical records of clients received, types of alleged crimes committed, types of violations that have occurred, etc.
with the assistance of the Administrative Aid.
These statistics will be used to compile and submit required reports to the Executive Director of Missoula Correctional Services.
*Qualifications*: Knowledge of the Missoula community and community resources; Montana’s correctional system--its organization and methods of operating; treatment principles in working with an offender population; behavior modification; and organizational skills for prioritizing workload, and handling personal stress.
Must possess typing skills and an introductory level of computer and word processing knowledge and skills.
Ability to physically respond in an emergency situation, including the ability to restrain an offender or defendant if necessary; effectively communicate orally and in writing; objectively assess individual needs and attend to the details of monitoring individual programs; operate a motor vehicle; follow written and oral instructions explicitly, and perform accurate and thorough work; act with initiative, exercise good judgment, and model good leadership; maintain effective working relationships with employees, offenders, the public, and other agencies; consistently apply rules and regulations and follow agency policies and procedures; function effectively under stressful conditions.
*Education and Experience*: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related Human Service field of study and two years of experience in the area of criminal justice.
Experience in another human service field may be considered.
The Bachelor’s degree must be from a university accredited by a regional accreditation organization recognized by the U.
S.
Department of Education.
An applicant that does not meet the experience required may be considered for an extended training position with a lesser salary.
