For sale or trade (trailer, side-by-side, coins, gold/silver, etc.
) this great Ford 8N tractor from 1948 I believe.
Hard to find is an N Series tractor with a Sherman gear just forward of the clutch pedal on the left floor board.
Mostly garaged, has a leak in the fuel tank but fires right up.
Would make a great farm tractor or addition to a collection.
From a reliable source came the following:
"This tractor was made before 1951 because the distributor is between the engine and radiator with the Generator on the right side.
The generators were on the left side after 1951 with the distributor on the right front side of the engine.
Also your tractor does not have the Tachometer/hour meter on it either which came later.
.
The absolute great news is that your N Series tractor has what I believe is a Sherman gear just forward of the clutch pedal on the left floor board.
It is the shaft with the weird angle on it coming out of the side of the Transmission.
There are two kinds of Shermans that I know of, one is a High, Low with the use of your normal Ford Gears.
I used to collect 8N's.
They started in 1939 with the 9N and built them until Mid 1941 then started on the 1942 2N which was made until mid 1947 and they started on the 1948 8N which still had the Front Distributor until they came out with the Side Distributor on the 1951.
Just for the record, your extra gearing could even be a Howard add-on that allowed the tractor to use a rototiller which even with the super Low Sherman gearing the N Series tractors were still too fast for rototilling.
BUT the shifter looks to be a Sherman Shifter.
Either way, if you took it off the tractor it would sell to 8N collectors for quite a bit.
Thirty years ago they alone were worth $1400.
00 if you could find one.
