– Fri.
8am – 5pm, on call Benefit Eligible: Full Benefits/PERS Job Summary: The system administrator/network administrator is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of IT Infrastructure Systems, ensuring performance, availability, and security of those systems.
The system administrator/network administrator may install or upgrade infrastructure components and software; provide routine automation; maintain security policies; troubleshoot and offer technical support for projects.
Systems administrator/network administrator is often involved in proactive work.
The duties often include: monitoring and testing of systems for weakness, verifying systems are kept current with updates, and assisting the IT Director install and implement security programs.
The systems administrator/network administrator will be responsible for managing helpdesk requests and directing desktop support staff’s daily duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
Travel Required: Travel between Ravalli County buildings is required.
Duties/Responsibilities: Configure, deploy, maintain and troubleshoot applications, computer systems, peripherals and other It systems including but not limited to server operating systems, enterprise applications, firewalls, layer 3 switches, WAPS and telecommunications equipment.
Manage Active Directory.
Users, groups and OU’s in a strict Group Policy environment.
Install monthly security updates on servers and critical computer systems.
Create and manage Firewall ACL’s, security policies, and access rules.
Perform scheduled backup operations for all data and critical systems.
Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc.
in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
Contribute to and maintain system standards.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Perform network switch programming of ports and VLANs on layer 3 switches.
Manage and edit county website and maintain website users, and permissions.
Maintain and facilitate operation of the Granicus live streaming video system.
Support recovery operations from disaster or system/component failures.
Recommend operational, configuration, or other procedures to the IT Director.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
Manage county wired and wireless network systems to ensure maximum uptime for all county employees.
Introduce and integrate new technologies into existing data center environments.
Manage email security spam filter.
Provide Emergency Services on-call 24x7x365 support alternating with other IT staff.
Maintain computer inventory database and prepare computer replacement reports.
Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Perform file archival and purge as necessary.
Required Skills/Abilities: Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Exchange and SCCM management.
Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to work order requests.
Ability to learn and maintain complex software systems that are vital to the county's operations Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical peoples from all levels of the organization.
Preferred Skills: Voip, VPN/SSL/IPSec, Hyper-V, Powershell Scripting, Network administration of Layer 3 switching, Industry standard in troubleshooting in the OSI Model, Linux knowledge, and Firewalls.
Required Knowledge and Experience: Proficiency in all aspects of computer hardware and software deployment, maintenance, diagnostics and repair.
Knowledge and understanding of network cabling systems, including installation, termination, labeling, organization, and testing.
Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of information and records, as applicable or directed.
Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor (4-year) degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science.
Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Microsoft.
Knowledge or experience in managing Microsoft SCCM and Exchange.
Four to six years system administration experience.
Additional Eligibility Requirements: Ability to pass an intense law enforcement grade background check.
Work Environment: Office Setting Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Requires moderate physical activity including stooping, bending and lifting moderately heavy items 30-50 pounds.
