We want students to come out of our programs feeling more connected to their environment, with each other, and with themselves.
Throughout the course of the week at camp your child will have fun, explore the natural world, make new friends, practice land-based living skills, gain nature awareness skills, learn to work with their hands, and spend time outside on the land all day.
Each week has different themes and these topics are covered in all camps: Nature awareness skills – What does it mean to be nature-connected? We will learn skills and practices that one can use anywhere to connect to the land, self, and others.
Survival skills- How can one feel more confident and capable in the wild? We will investigate fire, water, and shelter survival skills in a fun and engaging way.
Ecology and natural relationships- What happens during the morning in nature versus the afternoon? We will heighten our senses and tune into the cycles and patterns in nature.
Hazards – What are some hazards that are important to be aware of in the natural world? We will think about plants, animals, and exposure to elements as we explore the landscape Land-based living skills – What does the land provide that can support us living, learning, surviving, and thriving? We will explore a variety of land-based living skills depending on the week your child is signed up for camp.
*Counselor Qualifications and Expectations:* -Enthusiasm for and some experience working with youth -Creativity and passion mentoring youth in a nature-based learning environment -Care about equity and diversity as well as creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all -Ability to supervise up to 10 kids at a time with minimal support or supervision -A love for the outdoors and getting kids connected to nature – Some experiences in outdoor education, wilderness living skills, or survival skills would be helpful but it is not required.
-Empathy, compassion, a positive attitude, and an open mind -Be a professional adult – operate with responsibility and integrity -Minimum age of 18 by June 5, 2023 -Be able to pass a background check -Have current first aid and CPR certification -Life guarding experiences a plus but not required -Uphold Learning with Meaning’s mission and policies *Lead Counselor Qualifications and Expectations: * -Experience teaching and leading outdoor education, wilderness living skills, or survival skills -Enthusiasm for and some experience working with youth -Ability to mentor, support, and be a positive role model for counselors -Experience in leadership and nature connection -A love for the outdoors and getting kids connected to nature -Creativity and passion mentoring youth in a nature-based learning environment -Care about equity and diversity as well as creating a welcoming and inclusive space for all -Ability to supervise up to 10 kids at a time with minimal support or supervision -Empathy, compassion, inclusivity, and an open mind -Be a professional adult – operate with responsibility and integrity -Minimum age of 18 by June 5 -Be able to pass a background check -Have current first aid and CPR certification -Life guarding experiences a plus but not required -Uphold Learning with Meaning’s mission and policies -Additional compensation negotiable depending on skills set.
*Summer Schedule:* – 7 hour shift, day shift -Hours*:* Monday-Friday either 9:00am-4:00pm (Counselors) or 9:00am-5:00pm(Lead Counselor) -Paid Training Days*:* June 5-7, 9am-3pm -Camp Dates*:* June 10-Aug 9 (July 1-7 off – no camps for July 4th week) -Paid Post Camp Work Day *Compensation/Benefits*: *–*Pay scale starting at $15/hr -Paid training and access to opportunities for additional development -Discounts on related programs -Housing: Employees may camp on the property free of cost the entire summer.
