Staff Vacancy Announcement The UM Dining invites applications for a Food Zoo Supervisor to oversee Food Zoo operation.
In the absence of the Assistant Manager and Manager, he/she will assume the role of Assistant Manager or Manager.
This position is responsible for all front-of-the-house student personnel functions including hiring, scheduling, training and development, shift supervision, evaluation, and performance management.
This position reports directly to the Food Zoo Manager and assists with fiscal and personnel management of the Food Zoo.
The Food Zoo serves over 3000 meals per day (annually exceeding 650,000) and generates over $3,000,000 in gross revenue.
This position is actively involved in all aspects of Food Zoo set up, service, and opening and closing tasks related to the Food Zoo operation.
This position will also assist with effective labor, supplies and food cost management, all food and equipment purchasing, inventories of supplies and maintenance of equipment.
They will assist in setting and maintaining high standards for receiving, producing, serving, holding, presenting and storing all food and beverage items.
This position will assist with personnel management for student and full-time employees, which may include recruitment, scheduling, and performance management.
In providing excellent guest service, this position will develop and maintain positive professional relationships with incoming parents and students, the Residence Life Office, Resident Assistants (RAs), Intercollegiate Athletics, and all guests of the Food Zoo.
This position maintains a safe and sanitary work environment by ensuring that all sanitation, food handling and safety regulations are followed at all times.
The Food Zoo Supervisor will assist with the development and implementation of special event activities for a progressive collegiate residential dining operation.
The Food Zoo Supervisor directs and supervises up to 75 student employees including all front of house employees, and assists the Executive Sous Chef or Sous Chef with back of house student employees.
They indirectly oversee the Production Manager and all kitchen staff.
In the absences of the Food Zoo Manager and Assistant Manager, this position will directly supervise all Food Zoo staff.
Required Skills Professional supervisory experience in a foodservice environment.
Experience working with college students as employees and guests.
Experience in the front-of-the-house working with guests and employees in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Experience with effectively training employees new to the workforce.
Experience with planning, implementing, and recapping special events.
ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.
Experience with standard food service reports including profit and loss, labor analysis, and annual operating budgets.
Experience in addressing personnel issues and dealing effectively with conflict.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a professional environment.
Excellent computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including spread sheets Minimum Required Experience High school diploma or GED and three (3) years related experience.
