The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office is seeking a full-time Detention Officer.
Wages & Compensation: Hourly Starting Wage: current base rate of $17.
98 After completion of 1 year probation: currently $19.
29 Longevity pay increases annually: 1% Overtime and Comp Time available Pay increases at 3, 5, 10, 15, and 20 years: hourly rate of $20.
67 after 3 years, $22.
25 after 5 years, $22.
46 after 10 years, $22.
69 after 15 years, and $22.
92 after 20 years.
Shift differential for night shift: $.
65 per hour Benefits: Annual Vacation Leave: 15 days (3 weeks) paid leave per year Sick Time: 12 days paid leave per year Holidays: 10 paid Federal holidays (11 in State General Election years) with premium holidays paid at time and one-half (per Collective Bargaining Agreement) Sheriff’s Retirement System (SRS): Employee contribution - 10.
495%, Employer contribution - 13.
115%, fully vested after five years Medical, Dental, and Vision group health insurance: The County offers $982 per month toward six group health insurance plans with the option to add family coverage.
Alternatively, the County provides an In-Lieu of Insurance payment of $446 per month with proof of other qualifying health coverage.
Group Life Insurance: If enrolled in the group health plan, the County provides $25,000 basic group term life insurance.
Employees have the option to purchase additional life insurance, even if not enrolled in the group life plan.
Annual Clothing Allowance after one year probation: $1046.
91 (increases annually) Employee Assistance Program: The EAP provides confidential access to professional counseling services.
Available to all employees and their immediate family members.
457 Plan: The County offers a voluntary deferred-compensation retirement plan allowing pre-tax and after-tax Roth contributions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: All public safety officer positions have minimum requirements established by Montana law and the Montana Public Safety Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council.
An applicant must: Be a United States citizen.
Be a resident of Montana, or become a resident within ninety [90] days of employment.
Possess a valid Montana Driver’s License or able to obtain a valid Montana Driver’s License within ninety (90) days of employment.
Be at least eighteen 18 years of age.
Be a high school graduate or have been issued a high school equivalency diploma by the superintendent of public instruction or by an appropriate issuing agency of another state or of the federal government; Free from illegal drug use, or legal drugs that impair mental or physical performance.
Be fingerprinted and a search made of the local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record.
Not have been convicted of a crime for which the person could have been imprisoned in a federal or state penitentiary.
Pass a background investigation in accordance with Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office procedure.
Must pass a physical examination by a physician selected/paid for by the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office.
Complete a personnel evaluation profile (PEP).
Successfully completing pre-employment drug testing.
Successfully complete an interview panel process conducted by the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office to demonstrate the possession of communication skills, temperament, motivation, and other characteristics necessary to the accomplishment of the duties and functions of a Corrections Officer.
Successfully complete a one year probation period, which includes passing the applicable divisional training program.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a Detention setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to heavy weight; operate office equipment including use of computer keyboard; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, and gripping with hands and fingers; ability to speak and hear to exchange information; ability to operate and use specialized tools and equipment including handcuffs.
Environment: Reactive emergency, natural or man-made disaster, and routine peace keeping environments.
The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration; exposed to potentially hostile environments; extensive inmate contact.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Required to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, and may be required to travel outside the County to attend meetings or trainings.
Work in an office setting with artificial light, using a desk, chair, and computer.
