Mental demands are paramount due to the intensity of the work and the emotional demands of residents.
Physical demands include the ability to restrain inmates in crisis situations, ability to observe and hear inmates, and adequate strength to lift 50 pounds.
Therefore, the Security Officer needs to be in good physical condition and mobile.
The Center is a 24-hour facility.

*Agency Description*: The Missoula Pre-Release Center serves 94 adult male and 23 female inmates who have been committed to the Montana State Prison or the Department of Corrections and subsequently transferred to the Center.
The Center provides housing, food services, counseling, supervision, life skills training and referral services for all residents.
The primary emphasis of the program is to provide residents with assistance needed for successful reintegration into the community.
*Typical Duties*: (Not all inclusive) * Maintains security of facility * Issues incident reports to residents for any rule infraction * conducts weekly room searches, person pat searches * administers breathalyzer tests and obtains urine samples from residents * conducts random and assigned checks of residents’ locations in the community * conducts hourly head counts * conducts surveillance of building & grounds * monitors resident movement through use of daily schedules & corresponding forms * Ensures safety standards * conducting fire drills * checking smoke alarms maintaining awareness of emergency procedures.
* Documents and maintains records.
* The Security Officer will demonstrate an ability to work within structure of Missoula Pre-Release Center * Maintains professional image * Completes duties in time lines specified * Is assertive with coworkers, supervisors, & community contacts * Makes a decision based on objective information considering the needs of both the MCS clients and the community * Follows directions given by supervisor *Qualifications*: Knowledge of security practices, methods and techniques in a correctional setting, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution.
Ability to learn skills in the use of security equipment and self defense techniques.
Ability to physically restrain an individual if necessary; to effectively communicate verbally and in written form; attend to details of monitoring individual programs; understand and interpret verbal and written instructions; operate a motor vehicle; apply rules and regulations; carry out facility policies; make appropriate decisions within the limits of authority; and function effectively under stressful conditions.
*Education and Experience*: The knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are acquired through high school graduation.
Prefer that the applicant have one year of security officer, Military, or related law enforcement experience.
An applicant that does not meet the experience required may be considered for an extended training and probationary period with a lesser salary.
