PAYROLL SPECIALIST I

The Payroll Specialist I ensures accurate processing of biweekly and semi-monthly payroll for assigned entities.
This position requires proficient computer skills, and the ability to multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.
Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for processing payroll at minimum, weekly, for hundreds to thousands of employees, depending on the account.
Sets up garnishments, tax levies, court orders, and withholding amounts in the accounting system.
Ensures that payroll is calculated accurately, ensuring all taxes are properly withheld.
Be capable of performing quality checks on payroll data files, including being capable of analyzing payroll data using predefined quality checklists and problem-solving skills.
Transfer data between systems.
Ensure that all transactions are properly recorded in the General Ledger.
Remit payroll tax deposits, such as 941, 940, and state income tax withholding.
Have a strong understanding of payroll taxes, such as FICA/FUTA/SUTA and related exemptions.
Maintains client confidence by safeguarding data and complying with HIPAA.
Perform ACH payroll and payment file uploads to the bank.
Generate payroll adjustments, voids, and reissues timely.
Plans payroll calendars and cycles appropriately.
Coordinate printing, packaging, and distribution of checks/advice slips.
Research and resolve payroll issues.
Processes vendor or Accounts Payable checks, as needed.
Coordinate with the Tax Team on tax filings, including W-2 and 1099 filings.
Coordinate payroll audits/reviews to ensure accuracy of pay and identify potential errors.
Assists with compiling information for special reports and preparing other documents and correspondence.
Communicates effectively regarding payrolls conducted for entities.
Education and Essential Traits A minimum of a high school diploma is required and three years of relevant experience.
College degree in a business-related field preferred, but can be waived in lieu of requisite direct payroll processing experience.
Minimum of three years of experience in payroll or general full-cycle accounting.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze information, strong attention to detail, take initiative to follow-up on transactions, and make decisions about information.
Good research and analysis skills Must possess solid technical skills, as this job requires handling large sets of data.
Strong Excel skills are essential for the position.
Exceptional mathematical and calculation skills.
Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
Multitasking abilities.
Must be willing to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Join Us This position is remote/work-from-home role.
